My little rant may not mean much to some but it suolhd mean something to the bean counters at MGM and Syfy. The entire reason why SG1, SGA and now our late friend SGU were canceled is because of ratings people. It had nothing to do with whether or not the show was viable or if it had a story line or if it had potential but just pure ratings. The idiotic bean counters at MGM and Syfy looked solely at the ratings content for the north American region and of the united states and determined that the show was not worth running due to lack of viewer interest. The retards didn't even take into account that the ratings across the globe would indicate a much higher support and interest for the shows for the rest of the people that live on this planet not just the Americans and the Canadians. Further more the retards at the programming department changed the time slots for the shows so many times that viewers didn't know what days the show was on and didn't realise when it was still on this led to the biggest drop in the shows ratings. Dedicated fans out side of the US had to resort to the internet for their weekly dose of stargate action and that again led to a further drop of the ratings again. If you ask me its high time that the silly fat cats at MGM and Syfy start adding the ratings from popular websites as an indication of how strong a show is because lets face it we live in a very digital age where everything is literally at our finger tips and people in this generation hardly get to sit in front of the TV but spend hours upon hours on end in front of their computers at home or at work. God forbid for people to loosen up with the whole copy right laws they might miss out on getting a few cents that could of fallen through their pocket in their cars. For all those out there that think any of the SG series is lame or crap in any way they can suck it!!! I've grown up on SG my entire life and its the best damned show i have ever seen full of action drama suspense aliens guns and gun fights explossions every other episode and cool technobable what more could you ask from a show? I say bring it back

Great review as alayws guys. I have to say I was pretty excited about "The Plan" (probably because I just needed something to tide me over until Caprica starts) and my reaction after seeing it was a mixed bag. My immediate thoughts after watching it was that I really liked it but the more I thought about it the less I did. I question why they decided to tell the story that they did. Did it really tell us anything that we didn't already know? The few new explanations that they did give more very midichlorian in nature. Did anyone really want to know how/why Boomer worked as a sleeper agent? Also I really didn't like how they explained how the Six that accuses Baltar of treason just "vanished." I think it was much more interesting when we didn't know if the Six was the same Six that was in Baltar's head and if she did just simply vanish. This movie fell into the same trap as "Razor." They showed a black and white picture of events that were gray in the series. All that being said I did like the exploration of the Simon cylon and thought the movie as a whole was very well acted. I sincerely hope that if they make any additional movies that they actually tell a story that reveals new information or a different point of view that both "Razor" and "The Plan" really fail to do.

Fantastic entry you've written here, I came upon this by chance and look forward to reading more of your work. I really appreciate how you've managed to explain some of the brilliance that lies under the surface of what is my favourite series of all time, I have just finished watching it for the first time and look forward to watching it all again sometime soon.
Thank you

I saw the Democracy Now! episode with Matilda Bernstein Sycamore and Dan Choi, and it was kind of a slap upside the head for me- as a gay liberal hopeful cynical pacifist, do I really just stand in a wishy-washy ground of condemning the idea of war but supporting the liberal cause of letting soldiers serve openly if they want to serve? I saw Choi speak in DC, and he's an eloquent speaker, but everything Matilda said was absolutely dead on-sadly though I think what it would take to achieve that awesome goal of concentrating more on life instead of battles is a world wide dismantling of every military budget, and the cynical thread in me thinks that's never going to happen. WWI was the slaughter to end all wars, the atrocities of the Holocaust, and here the wars still are going on. It comes down to personal experience though- this weekend my family and I met with a friend of my brother from college; he's in the military and due to ship out to Afghanistan in December. He has a family. I hope beyond hope that he returns fine. Call it duty, honor, put it in whatever lofty terms you want, but I'm still shaken and upset by the fact that war is separating him from his family. That is wrong.

There are two different issues and they should not be linked or conflated. With respect to DADT, it's a matter of equality and fairness of an American governmental institution. That's it. As to how American military power should be used -- and, indeed, how much is really needed, that's a different basket of issues.

Yes, Sam, you should give him another try. I like P. b/c I know that I will read something I have never read before. I read all the time, and I enjoy the divergent topics and unique approaches he takes. BTW, I would have loved to hear you and Alexander and Lee read and talk. It must have been a dynamic event.

I had not idea he was gay, either. I have read many of his novels and (the ones I have gotten into) relished them. Try him again. Monsters was great. Fight Club still one of my favorites for its anti-consumerist screed that somehow passed mainstream muster in the film.

"I’m already nervous enough about the impending economic-environmental apocalypse, and the crumbling of societal structures, and the resulting rise of vicious cannibal-warlords."

My friend, this is not only my mind every day as I see more and more signs of it, I've had a kind of survivalist awareness for more than a decade. Our only hope, is that with so many f*cking people in the NYC area, that when the sh*t really hits the fan, that many people can't just be left to die or ignored. I believe that hatever form of government we have then (and we're rapidly heading toward true corporate-facism) will step in to prevent the worst suffering. The people in smaller cities are going to be screwed; see Detroit, today.

Oh, and as for these kinds of "reality" shows, I loath most all of 'em, but especially the ones that glorify and actually reward the worst traits of humanity. "Survivor" basically rewarded whoever was the most convincing liar and the best at scheming long-term to f*ck-over everyone else.

Couldn't agree with you more. The whole time I was reading it I was thinking "why is this a big freaking deal?" If Larsson was alive cashing these checks he'd be giggling every time he went to bed. Under his comforter made of money.
